MORGAN COUNTY GUN CLUB
2024 CHAMPIONSHIP SHOOT

The Morgan County Gun Club held its yearly club championship Sunday, September 22nd. The club championship is the last competitive shoot of the year in our area, so participants come to visit with friends, enjoy good food, & shoot. Shooters traveled from many areas around Ohio, and West Virginia to the club. Everyone enjoyed the day.

Eleven doubles’ shooters took the line on Sunday morning. They shot 50 pair each for a total of 100 targets. Some of our shooting friends don’t compete in the doubles but they enjoyed watching. It’s a fast paced event, especially going after the second bird. Fred Dague from Valley Grove, WV won high doubles with a score of 94-100.

Before the 100-Bird Program shooters enjoyed a good meal. Baked ham and fried chicken were supplied by the club. Shooters brought a covered dish or dessert. Larry Wise baked his delicious pies; blackberry, rhubarb, peach, and apple. Many got a piece of pie before their meal.

Sunday’s championship program consisted of 100 targets: 50 singles (singles/16 yard)and 50 ATA (Amateur Trapshooting Association) handicap (hdcp) targets. Shooters shoot ATA assigned yardage or 23 yard minimum. Hdcp targets are thrown from the 19 yard line to the 27 yard line, depending on shooter’s ability. 29 shooters competed this year. Awards were given to high gun open, high singles, high handicap, high veteran 70+, high junior18 and under, and high lady. One trophy per day per shooter is permitted. We had five juniors competing this year: Jacob, Wyatt Bare from Mt. Perry, Marshal Supanik of Valley Grove, WV, Cooper Johnson, and Mason Barnhouse Young shooters are what we need in this sport. Club members are helpful and encourage young shooters in the sport. Trapshooting teaches gun safety, responsibility, and is a very competitive sport. The gun club is open every Saturday at noon. Anyone interested in learning how to shoot trap is welcome. Individuals at the club will assist you.
